A Sampling of Small Linkbait Articles

Date July 28, 2007

From time to time I’ll suggest some reading here that has to do with freelancing, entrepreneurship, writing, productivity, business or technical. In this case, here’s some shameless self-promotion of articles I’ve recently written for some of my clients. I’ve picked out what I feel are some of my better articles. This is a roundup for May - July 2007.

Why read them? Well, there are several reasons, inferred by the topics mentioned above. However, they are also examples of “mini” and “medium” sized linkbait articles. Linkbait is one element of link building, as is deep linking. In hindsight, the titles are not necessarily the best, and some are more consistent than others, but if you want a short course on link building and how to write linkbait, study these articles. I apply many of the same techniques as for bigger linkbait articles that have produced as many as 80,000 pageviews in less than a week (thanks to social media promotion).

Great link baiting articles. How many links did these articles get you?

  2. Raj Dash Says:

Hi Sujan, one site was more successful than the other. However, there are a couple of reasons for this difference:

    (1) One site was started earlier and has the benefit of having some regular readers that are bloggers.
    (2) The client for this same site has a full-time team promoting articles I write as well as that of their other writers on other sites.

That’s one thing I didn’t mention: you need to promote your content, either with blog carnivals and/or social media. Don’t rely on just search engine rankings. Linkbait in the wild rarely gets a lot of links, unless you’re writing some every day.
