Finding Inspiration in Odd Places

Date September 27, 2007

Inspiration is a tricky animal. To truly excel in anything, it’s best to be inspired — but inspiration is something that can’t be faked. I find it’s more effective to go OUTSIDE my profession to get the juices flowing.

  • A domainer I know finds inspiration in Warren Buffet’s “long term, ignore the market” viewpoint.
  • A web designer I love gets his ideas from fine art, or album covers, or comics books, or anything else visual.
  • As a blogger I often find inspiration in the written word — but NOT on a computer — in a novel I’m writing, The Economist, etc.

What are some outside-the-box sources of inspiration do you use in your professional life?
