For me I work freelance for exactly the reasons you outline. Plus by being a freelancer as opposed to working inhouse, I get such a huge variety of projects and get to be paid to research things that fascinate me, or I have been meaning to learn more about anyway. In the past week I have written on teeth whitening, hair regrowth, eczema, vehicle finance, and massage. I doubt there are many in house jobs that can match that sort of variety.
