Acer Aspire one netbook notebookIs this something you’d want in your web worker’s toolbox? A netbook (small, lightweight, Internet-connected notebook computer similar to the Acer Aspire One pictured at right) that is ALWAYS on? Even when you shut it off? It would still be checking for your email, pulling it all down to your hard or solid state drive? Talk about being constantly wired. All we need now is to shrink these devices further, add HUDs (Heads up displays) and you too can be like the Borg. (Star Trek reference, if you didn’t already know.)

If this is something you’d want, Radio Shack will be selling the $300 Aspire One in the USA for $99 with a 2-year AT&T contract. Now if you could get VoIP running on these, you wouldn’t even need a cell phone.
