Despite the historic day in the USA today (i.e., the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President), Twitter managed to withstand the increased tweets. The Twitter blog claims that even before noon (PST zone?), there were 5x normal tweets-per-second. Despite this volume, Twitter managed to stay up. I noticed only a brief time when Joe Biden and Barack Obama were being sworn in where my Twitter tweets (entered from a Facebook plugin) took some time to show up on Facebook.

This performance is very good news considering that Twitter just passed social voting site Digg in market share.
